How to Let Claude Edit Your Videos While You're Away
Hands-off editing · A practical guide
The best part of Claude editing for me? I sit down, record, and I don't have to worry about editing or staying up really late. I tell Claude to use my skill, and it edits while I get other work done or go for a walk. Here's how to set it up so it runs without you.

Watch: Claude edits my videos while I go for walks
Sound familiar?
- You're staying up really late editing, and you still don't get nearly as much done as you want.
- You're the only shooter and the only editor, and you're backlogged on videos.
- You've got a full-time job, and editing eats the little free time you have.
- You tried AI, but you had to sit there and babysit it the whole time.
Editing shouldn't need you in the chair. Once Claude knows your style, you hand it the footage and walk away.
How it works
Claude doesn't need you watching. It needs two things: a skill that knows exactly how you edit, and one clear message telling it what to do. Give it those and it works on its own while you're out living your life. While Claude edits, you're free.
How to let Claude edit while you're away
1. Train Claude on your style first
This is the part that makes it work without you. A Claude that knows your fonts, your pacing, your captions and your good and bad examples doesn't need to ask you questions. Here's how: How to make Claude edit videos in your style. Write your own skill, or use mine. It's in my AI Editing Bundle.
2. Drop your raw clips in one folder
Record, then put the raw clips in your Claude Editing folder. One clip per video.
3. Send one message with everything in it
Say everything up front so Claude has no reason to stop and wait for you. You can type it or just say it out loud with voice dictation:
Yo, edit every clip in my Claude Editing folder using my (your name) editing style skill. Don't wait for me, I'm heading out. Make each one a finished Instagram reel and save them all in one folder for me to review.
4. Keep your computer on
Claude edits on your computer, so leave it on, plugged in and awake. Then go. Get other work done, go for a walk, go to sleep.
5. Come back and give notes
Watch each edit. Give notes with exact times and what's wrong, like "fix the captions at 22 seconds, they're covering my mouth." Then go do something else again while it fixes them.
6. Fix the skill, not just the video
If Claude makes the same mistake twice, tell it to add the fix to your skill. Fix the skill once and it never makes that mistake again. Every fix means less checking next time.
Your hands-off checklist
- Is Claude trained on my style with a saved skill?
- Are my raw clips all in one folder?
- Did my message say everything, including "don't wait for me"?
- Is my computer on, plugged in and awake?
- Am I giving notes with exact times and saving fixes into the skill?
You can build all of this yourself
Everything in this guide works. But Claude only edits on its own once the skill really knows you. That means filling folders, writing rules, and fixing the same mistakes again and again until it edits like you. That takes months.
And most of you don't have months, right? You're shooting, editing, running a business, all at once.
Just like Nijah. She's a solopreneur, running a business with a full-time job on top. Here's what she left in her review:
“As a solopreneur and with a full time job, it's hard managing social media and video creation, so having an easier workflow is principal.”
Nijah, solopreneur
Well, look what she says now:
“It integrates with Claude, which holds all my business context, so I can just rock and roll seamlessly. Now it will be a no brainer to video edit, because I can just talk to Claude and make changes with voice dictation. Voila. Let it cook.”
Nijah, solopreneur

Here's what Mark left in his review, right after he got it:
“Awesome stuff. Right out the box, edited a solid usable video!”

Questions people ask
Can Claude edit videos while I'm not at my computer?
Yes. Once it's trained on your style, you send one message, walk away, and come back to finished edits. Your computer just has to stay on.
Is it gonna get it right, or do I have to review everything?
It's not perfect every time, just like anything. You watch each edit and give a few notes with exact times. Every fix you save into the skill means less to check next time.
Can I edit a bunch of videos at once?
Yes. Put all your raw clips in one folder and tell Claude to edit every clip in it with your skill.
Another subscription?
You need a Claude plan, yes. Think of it as an editor that works while you sleep.
Is it for a beginner?
Yes. You talk to Claude in plain English, or out loud with voice dictation. If you can talk, you can do this.
